A-Plus® Skim Coat 503 Ready-To-Use Smooth Rendering Paste is a premium ready-to-use thin plaster ideal for smoothing and correcting minor surface imperfections on concrete substrates prior to painting. This product imparts a luxuriously smooth and durable finish for both indoor and outdoor concrete walls and ceilings. It exhibits superior adhesion, easy sandability, and water-tightness. It is ready-to-use, which leads to savings on cost and labor and prevents backjobs arising from uneven mixing ratios and poor quality mix. It is resistant to minor hairline cracks, and is compatible with most architectural paints, thereby making it the preferred choice of skim coat among contractors and painting works.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Principal Uses: For smoothing and correcting surface imperfections like grooves, seams, fine cracks, and air pockets on concrete substrates such as reinforced or new concrete walls, precast concrete panels, traditional rendering mortars, lightweight concrete blocks, gypsum and ficem boards, and other similar construction materials.

Coverage: 10-15 sqm per gallon (Depending on surface porosity and applying conditions)

Surface Dry: 1-2 hours

Dry Through: 6 – 8 hrs

Clean-up Solvent: Water

Application: Putty Knife/Spatula/Trowel

SURFACE PREPARATIONS:

1. Surface to be skim coated must be thoroughly cleaned, free of any contaminants.
2. For fresh concrete, apply at least 1-2 coats of A-Plus® Concrete Sealer.
3. Structural defects like leaks and all sources of internal water pressure must be thoroughly sealed and repaired to prevent membrane damage.
4. Scrape off cement residue and loose material then sand away rough edges. Do not apply on areas immersed in water.
5. If previously painted, strip off all loose and chalking paint with A-Plus Supertanggal® Paint Remover.
6. Avoid applying product under extreme environmental conditions and/or bad weather conditions.
7. Do not intermix with other skim coat systems in order to preserve optimum product properties.
8. MIX WELL before using.

PAINTING PROCEDURE:

Application Procedure:

1. Follow proper surface preparation for new concrete.
2. Make sure surface is clean and dirt-free. Dampen surface using a rag soaked in water.
3. Mix A-Plus® Skim Coat 503 thoroughly before using. Never return exposed or dried product to its original container to prevent contamination.
4. Apply the slurry using a clean and smooth steel trowel. Press firmly for an even and thin coat. Recommended thickness is 0.3 to 2.0mm.
5. Allow the surface to dry for at least an hour before sanding. Allow sufficient drying time before painting.
6. If a thick overall coat is desired, apply multiple thin coats at 2-3 hours drying time in-between each coat. Recommended overall thickness is 0.5 to 3mm.

Suggested Painting System on Concrete Surfaces:

1. Waterproofing(Optional): For positive side waterproofing on areas such as Firewalls, Bathroom, Roofdecks, Basements, etc., apply 3-4 coats of a mixture of A-Plus® Concrete Bond with portland cement at 1-Ltr to 1-Kg ratio. Pot life is approx 4 hours. Allow 2-3 hours drying between each coat. For superior waterproofing on both positive and negative side water pressure, apply 2-3 coats of A-Plus Water-Check®.
2. Primer-Sealer: Observe proper concrete curing schedule. Apply 1-2 coats of A-Plus® Concrete Sealer using either brush or roller.
3. Rendering Paste: Apply ready-to-use A-Plus® Skim Coat 503 using either a putty knife/steel trowel. Allow to cure before light sanding.
4. Primer(Optional): Apply at least 1-2 coats of A-Plus® Premium Acrylic Flat Latex as primer.
5. Topcoat: Apply 2-3 coats of your choice color of A-Plus All Weather® Paint. Allow 2-3 hours drying time between each coat.
